Sunday a bunch of people came over to help us paint my new apartment. About a week ago I moved in with this girl the Strong’s introduced to me from Columbia. She’s absolutly fantastic. But even though she’s been living in this apartment for over a year, its like she moved in yesterday. sort of felt like moving in with a guy. ha. things like barebones furiture, lack basic items such as a canopener, and the walls being this horrible peeling gray wallpaper. The first thing i said when i moved in was, do you think the owner would care if we paint?
So a couple days ago we trek over to the fertteria (the place where one buys ferrets…jk…or hardware store things…sorry bad joke) we picked out sort of a light brown/cream for the majority of the walls and green for a contrast wall. so, the green was supposed to be sort of a mellow sage sort of color (i know if youre guy reading this you have no idea, but we’ll pretend that you know what i mean by sage) well, we open the can, and start doing the edging. it is immediately clear that it is not the subdued chill color we had picked out. but rather a very bright, bright apple green. think granny smith, really. but there we were, like 10 people here ready to go at it with the store is sort of far away, so bright green it is! ha, you know, sort of like something to wake you up in the morning. it was really fun though, with all of us packed into my little living room with brushes and rollers and whatnot. tripping over each other and laughing that even with a chair, hardly anyone was tall enough to reach the ceiling.
and the deal was i made food to feed everyone as a thank you for helping, which was a seperate adventure in of itself. so i made lasagna, and i put it together the night before. but in the middle of everything – sauce and cheese all over the place- the power goes out in my building. so i had to finish using a headlamp. ha. that’s right miner style. and even better than that, my apartment has certain ghetto features to it, one of which is that the counter/sink deal is like 4 inches out from the wall. well, a bunch of silverware falls back there, so there i am half lying across the counter top trying to reach down and grab it with the very tips of my fingers in the depths where im pretty sure scary things like roaches live, all by dora-the-explorer headlamp. ha life is always exciting. but the lasagna was a great hit at least. all in all, pretty much a perfect Sunday afteroon!
